The Quebec Garrison Club

HISTORY

The Quebec Garrison Club

Before the Quebec Garrison Club, there was in this city the Stadacona Club founded as early as 1860. It was located at 41 ½ d'Auteuil St. Most of its members were civilians, some of whom were officers of the Militia. Progressively, British officers of the Royal Engineers Corps became members. The withdrawal of the British troops from Quebec in 1871 created a minor crisis at the Stadacona Club.

The Quebec Garrison Club was incorporated in 1880 by a special act of the legislature but it had existed since 1879 as an association.

The Cercle Universitaire was founded in 1943.

In 1984, the Quebec Garrison Club and the Cercle Universitaire were merged as a new corporation which took over the property previously occupied by the Garrison Club at 97, St. Louis Street.

The building has undergone major renovations in 1992-1993. Its classic architecture is characterized by spacious rooms, high ceilings, elegant decor, a delightful garden as well as many antique furnishings and works of art.

The Club is proud of the number and diversity of services offered : a welcome reminiscent of the great homes of days gone by, a dining experience to remember, and exquisite service amidst the tasteful surroundings exuding charm, elegance and comfort.

Such discrete and appealing setting is superbly suited to business gatherings in a private and confidential atmosphere. Numerous institutions and corporations of the Quebec area use the Club's facilities to develop their contacts and undertakings, while benefiting from the exclusive calendar of events offered to members.
